Lodging & Arrivals - Tokyo, Japan

Lodging

Upon arrival, students are provided a list of several economical, reliable hotels, Japanese inns, and host families for short homestays. Since most lodging is 30-60 minutes by bus or train from the school, it is recommended that students purchase commuter passes. Usually students either stay in a guest house, with a homestay family or rent a room.

GuestHouse
Staying in a furnished guest house will cost about 65,000 JPY per month.

Renting a Room
To rent an unfurnished room you will need to pay at least 60,000 JPY per month with an initial deposit ranging from 4-5 months rent.
Note: Tokyo is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, similar to Manhattan or Hong Kong. The average cost of living (rent, food, etc.) of a foreign student living in Tokyo is in the region of 150,000-180,000 JPY per month ($1,430 US-$1,715 US).
