Program & Admission Information - Hamburg, Germany  


 

The Programs

The goal of the courses is to teach colloquial German by concentrating on communication in everyday situations (e.g. living, eating, travel, holidays, shopping, job), as well as ensuring students can read and formulate simple texts. The direct method of teaching is used right from the outset, ie only German is spoken in classroom.

All courses are available in six different levels:
  •   Beginner
  •   Basic 1
  •   Basic 2
  •   Intermediate I
  •   Intermediate 2
  •   Upper 1

Intensive Courses Group 25 hours per week. Intensive groups are ideal for people wanting to combine tuition with leisure activities. Students learn German quickly and still have enough time to explore Hamburg.

Classes comprise 5 lessons a day. One lesson has a duration of 45 minutes. The classes are scheduled from 8:50 to 13:00 or 13:30 to 17:45, Monday - Friday. Group sizes have an average of 8 students per class with a maximum of 12. Intensive courses for beginners commence on the first working day of each month. Students with prior knowledge can commence each Monday. Students with a prior knowledge of German are given a free proficiency test.
Group/Tutor Course 30 hours per week. This program combines the Intensive Group 25 hours per week with Tutor one-on-one classes for 5 hours per week. It is recommended for those who want maximum language learning and/or may have special vocabulary needs such as commercial, legal, or technical German, etc.

The Group/Tutor course comprises 5 lessons per day in a group setting and 1 lesson per day with a personal tutor. This course is a minimum of 2 weeks, with additional weeks available. One lesson has a duration of 45 minutes. Classes are held Monday - Friday from 8.00 - 13:00 or 13:30 - 17:45.

 
Tutor Course
 
20 lessons per week. Individual tuition is the most effective form of teaching. The direct method in conjunction with proven and modern instruction material is used. If a student already has prior knowledge, specific types of language such as commercial, legal or technical German, can be arranged.
The Tutor course comprises 4 lessons per day and can be booked by the week. One lesson has a duration of 45 minutes. Classes are held Monday - Friday, any time between 8.00 - 21:00. The center will arrange personal timetables with students prior to the commencement of the course. Beginners and students with prior knowledge can commence each Monday.


 

Admissions & Academic Credit

Students age 17 years and older are welcomed regardless of educational background, occupation or nationality. No previous knowledge of German is required except where otherwise indicated.

Students desiring credit for their study should contact their home school or request the NRCSA Credit Fact Sheet. Generally, U.S. universities consider 15 hours of study to be equal to 1 semester credit.

Certificates & Exams

A certificate will be issued to students provided he/she has attended the course regularly and has completed the voluntary exam for his/her level, Basic 1 - Upper.

Preparation for the following exams is offered and is at additional cost:
       1. IHK-exam 1. level. Institution: Chamber of Commerce
       2. PNDS-Exam. Institution: German University
       3. IHK-exam 2. level. Institution: Chamber of Commerce
       4. IHK-exam 3. level. Institution: Chamber of Commerce
