Activities & Excursions - Aix-en-Provence, France

Special Activities

We work with trustworthy partners – associations, professionals and private individuals – to provide our students with a diversity of activities, some at an additional cost. They all offer a cultural interest, an opportunity to practice your French and a chance to get to know the other students better.

Cooking lessons
Mme Lantheaume and the Teixeira family offer cooking lessons in small groups, at their homes. You will learn to cook different recipes and then have dinner together. The recipes can be traditional ones, or made with typical products of Provence. The activity lasts about three hours, dinner included.
These two families also offer dinner at their homes, so that everybody can eat and spend a friendly evening together. The duration is also of about three hours.

Drawing workshop
Catherine Moullé offers drawing lessons at her apartment. All levels are welcome, and she will teach you different drawing techniques. The lessons last about two hours and are followed by some drinks and chips.

Pastry lessons
Tarte tatin, crêpes, fig pie, and oreillettes, are only some of the specialties of Mme Leplat ! You can spend the afternoon at her home and learn to bake delicious desserts, and then enjoy tea time together. This activity lasts about three hours.

Painting workshop
A very creative host transforms her apartment into an artist’s studio for an afternoon. All levels are welcome and you will learn different painting techniques. If the weather is nice, the workshop will take place outdoors. It lasts about three hours and each participant will set off with their own “chef-d’oeuvre”.

Démonstration de CD Rom
Léa Roch-Duvernay, in charge of accommodation here at the institute, helps you in your French learning process by showing you useful CD Roms and websites. She’ll provide you with tools and tips that will allow you to keep on improving your French after your stay at IS Aix-en-Provence.

Weekend excursions / Pétanque
George Tudose, with the association Centre de Séjours Linguistiques/Idée Nomade, organizes excursions in different parts of Provence every weekend : the Luberon, cities of the Côte d’Azur, the Camargue – discover the many faces of Provence !
George also organizes pétanque tournaments, a good occasion for all students to meet and get together for a relaxing and fun time. The pétanque is followed by an evening at the restaurant in the winter and a barbecue in the summer.

Hiking
With the association Evana, discover the landscapes of the Sainte Victoire mountain that fascinated Paul Cézanne. Lionel and Stéphane will take you through the little hills and paths to his favorite painting spots. This activity offers easy hiking for everybody. All you need is a pair of comfortable, closed shoes, a bottle of water, and maybe some sunscreen. The duration is about three hours.

Initiation à l’œnologie
Learn to distinguish the different aromas of wine with the wine professionnals of the Cave du Félibrige. The activity consists of an introduction to the history and the making process of wine, followed by a wine tasting. It lasts about two hours.

Sports
Aix-en-Provence is at the center of very beautiful sites which can be discovered while playing sports. Some sporting activity options for students can include: water sports, golf, horse-riding, cycling, rock climbing, tennis, hiking (and the nearest ski resorts are two hours away by car!)
